The House of the Dead (1996 Sega Ent.)
The Story: Simply put, my wife wanted it. We were at an arcade auction and I had just picked up a San Francisco Rush the Rock driving game. Her parents live in the area and were at the auction with us. This game was one of the games being auctioned, and Sue and her mother couldn’t stop playing it. They just thought it was the coolest game they ever played. I had explained that this was a high dollar game, that it could go anywhere between $500 to $1000 or even higher. I myself was not much for gun games, and always told myself if I got one, it would be Site 4 which is apparently hard to find today. I had never experienced HOTD before but I did like the theme. We have always been into horror and zombie flicks, so this game sure looked cool. At that point, money was no object. This was one of those last "illusive" games and Sue had to have it.
The Score: We didn’t pick it up from the auction that day, but I did buy it from a retail seller in KC a short time later. I still wonder to this day if it was the same one at the auction. I think it went for just over $500 there. I paid more than that, but not by much. Sue's mother was coming to town and agreed to bring the game over, nice. This is Sue's "Mobirthmas" present for 2010 (That’s Mothers Day, Christmas & Her Birthday). She's fine with that, this game is her baby and she knows it.
The Service: For the price I paid, this game didn’t need much of anything. It’s in good shape. The seller claims he recapped the monitor and the guns are fairly new. The only problem I had was I noticed one speaker wasn’t working, and I traced the problem to a bad amp. I alerted the seller of this and he sent a replacement amp in the mail right away, a real class act.
